Chepauk storm past Kovai to enter into the finals

Players of Chepauk Super Gillies and Lyca Kovai Kings went head-to-head in an important match at ICL Cricket Stadium, Tirunelveli on Friday. Chepauk held their tenacity once again and came out on top beating the Lyca Kovai Kings by 27 runs via D/L method in a rain-hit game.

Murali Vijay and Co won the toss and chose to bat first in what was a high scoring pitch. Kovai Openers Suryap Prakash and Murali Vijay made their way into the middle after a 5 minute delay due to rain. Chepauk were brilliant from ball 1. Sai Kishore was quick to remove Suryap Prakash for just 4 runs in the second over. Anirudh Sita Ram and Murali Vijay played very slow innings. They scored 19 and 24 respectively. Akshay Srinivas tried to heave the ball through the point area but found the fielder. His innings was short lived, yet again. The following batsmen M Mohammed and Harish Kumar played crucial innings for the Kovai’s scoring 62 combinedly off 45 balls. Siva played a quick-fire 14 off 7 to post a respectable total on board. It was a night to remember for the left arm spinners. Sai Kishore, Arun and Alexander conceded just 57 runs in their 12 overs and picked up 5 wickets to put the pressure pile up on the Kovai batsmen. Target set for the Chepauk Super Gillies was 137 in the available 20 Overs.

Chepauk needed a good start from their openers Gopinath and Thalaivan Sargunam. Gopinath scored 3 boundaries in the first over before edging the ball to the wicket keeper. He departed for 12 in 5 balls. On the other side of the pitch, Thalaivan Sargunam slowly added runs. He scored an unbeaten 33 runs off 33 balls. Karthik was the new batsmen. He made an explosive start and some of the shots he played were a delight to watch. He scored an entertaining 38 runs off 28 balls and was rewarded with the man of the match. Rain started to hit hard when 11 Overs were played. After waiting for a hour, umpires that there will be no further play in this game. Chepauk were 27 runs ahead of Kovai after the 11th Over. Chepauk Super Gillies for the second consecutive time beat Lyca Kovai Kings in the playoffs.

The Grand finale will see Chepauk Super play the Albert Tuti Patriots at MA Chidambaran Stadium on Sunday.
