Review – Chepauk Super Gillies Vs Karaikudi Kaalai

Chepauk Super Gillies took on Karaikudi Kaalai at MA Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday. The away side beat the hosts by a margin of 47 runs in the 10th game of the Tamil Nadu Premier League. Currently, Chepauk are looking for their first victory in this year’s edition, whereas Karaikudi are second in the table with two wins out of possible three.

Winning the toss, Karaikudi elected to bat first. Srikkanth Anirudha and Aditya were the openers. They were able to register 10 and 56 runs respectively, but fell to the right arm, B Arun Kumar. Suryaprakash added 7 runs, but Harish Kumar forced the issue and took his first wicket of that game for the Gillies. Followingly, Alexander picked up the wicket of Mann Bafna who scored 31 runs of 23 balls. Rajhamany Srinivasan scored run a ball and scored 19. At another end, Shahjahan scored 4 sixes to take Karaikudi to 193. Harish Kumar and Arun Kumar stood out for the Gillies with two wickets each.

The openers for Chepauk were Ganga Sridhar Raju and Sunny Kumar Singh. The beginning of the innings was less convincing to lose the experienced Ganga early for no score. Sunny followed him for measly 2 runs. Skipper Gopinath took in charge of the whole situation and scored 47 runs off 38 balls, scoring 3 fours and 2 sixes in the process. Sasidev played out a steady inning of 22 runs and formed a partnership worth 55 runs with the captain. Just when things seemed to go in their way, Sasidev was dismissed by Rajkumar. Karthik was the new batsmen. Due to hesitation on running between the wickets, Karthik was run out on 7 runs. Consecutively, Gopinath and Harish Kumar were on their way back. Murugan Ashwin and Rahul added 48 runs totally, which was not enough for the Gillies to cross the line. A collective effort from all the bowlers restricted Chepauk to 146.

This might not be one of the best starts for Chepauk, but the boys are working hard to put the team back in track as they battle out for a place in the playoffs. Chepauk will take on Lyca Kovai Kings to bag all two points on 26th July.
